Trump Administration Live Updates: Mass Layoffs of Federal Health Workers Begin

  • "Deep job cuts: The Trump administration’s layoffs of 10,000 federal health workers began early Tuesday morning, with some workers at the Food and Drug Administration finding out that they had lost their jobs when they tried to enter their offices and their security badges did not work. Under plans released last week, the cuts were expected to hit administrative, communications and other support staff. 

  • Crucial week: President Trump’s political momentum is set to face serious tests this week as Democrats try to turn various down-ballot races into referendums on his administration. On Tuesday, elections will be held for the State Supreme Court in Wisconsin and for a deep-red House seat in Florida.   • Marathon speech: Senator Cory Booker, Democrat of New Jersey, gave an all-night speech on the Senate floor to put a spotlight on what he called a “crisis” facing the United States because of the Trump administration’s “recklessness.” Mr. Booker began speaking on Monday evening and was still addressing the chamber, which was largely empty, as of 8 a.m. Eastern."
