This refusal to accept reality is what spurred MLK to write his letter from a Birmingham Jail. They took the pressure off of the President and sold out the DACA students out of fear that conservative Democrats might be in jeopardy during the Fall election cycle. This is a clear example of what the late Harvard Law School Professor Derrick Bell called "involuntary sacrifice". Why do they stubbornly keep blinders on their eyes. They refused to listen to the DACA students who wanted to continue the shutdown. These liberals always think they know better when it comes to other people's lives.
